On a hot summer day, wouldn't you like a cup of snow secret room?

On a hot summer day, wouldn't you like a cup of snow secret room?

I hope this glass of snow secret room will bring a touch of coolness to your summer.

"Snow Chamber of Secrets", also known as "Snow without footprints", is one of the "no footprints". The word "secret room" originally refers to a room that is inaccessible in a realistic sense, but then many deformations have been derived, resulting in a variety of generalized secret rooms, and "no footprint" is one of them. When it comes to "no footprints", some people may think that "there are no footprints in the snow". It is not. "No footprint" is an abbreviation for "no murderer's footprint". That is to say, even if there are many footprints in the snow, as long as there are no murderer's footprints, they can be counted as "no footprints."

the common environment is not only snow but also rainy days, beaches and so on. the ground that may leave footprints can become a stage for "no footprints". but unlike other environments, once the pure and beautiful image of "Snow" is combined with a dark and bloody murder, it will produce strange artistic effects (such as the gorgeous snow-secret room in the Sonata of Summer and Winter), so "Snow" is often more beautiful than other crime scenes. This is why many people, including me, prefer "no footprints in the snow" in the category of "no footprints".

according to Robert Eddie's Chamber of Secrets Bible, the world's first article "death in Flying" was written by Samuel Hopkins Adams in 1903. This short story published in Seaside Magazine is not only a pioneer in this field but also a masterpiece. Unfortunately, the crime scene is a beach, not the snow we like to see. three years later, in 1906, "the Flying Man" and "the Flying Man" were published, showing the charm of the Snow Chamber to the world for the first time.

there are many ways to classify the works of Snow Secrets. The man of the second class once put forward the "handout" in his masterpiece, "the House of Bloodsucking", which is also the pinnacle of the teacher of the second class, in which there are nine categories according to the method of committing the crime, including almost all the trickery without footprints from ancient times to the present. However, if you know these tricks in advance before reading a lot of works, it will inevitably reduce the fun of reading to a great extent. Therefore, to avoid leakage, we might as well classify it according to the riddle, and friends with relatively large readings can go to Baidu on their own.

Snow secret rooms can be classified into three categories according to riddles.

1. The snow has no footprints at all. this is the most traditional way of writing. Most of the riddles are "there is a body in the middle of the snow, and there are no footprints around the body." This kind of work is the oldest, and there are many famous works. For example, the second cause of Carl's most famous work, "three coffins", is shot without footprints in the snow. The advantage of this kind of work is that the riddle is gorgeous, and the scene often presents a very perfect and natural state. But correspondingly, the disadvantage is that the change is too little, the answer is single, in the present era, it will inevitably feel boring.

2. There are footprints in the snow. although this kind of work was born late, "having a footprint" makes this kind of work a lot of variables, and it is still challenged by many reasoning writers today. "although there are footprints in the snow, there are no footprints of the murderer." There is a lot of room for such a riddle, for example, there may be the footprints of Witness An in the snow, but Witness A has an alibi for the murder; for example, there are multiple sets of footprints back and forth in the snow. then the work can have a long discussion about who these footprints are; and many writers like to write about the footprints of animals, dogs, wolves, and even bears in the snow. Why are there footprints of these animals? Is it a coincidence or is it the killer's trick?

III. A room surrounded by snow. this is the most innovative category. The snow secret room is connected with the real house, which is a double-secret room, and its answers are naturally varied. There are not many such works. I think there is still a lot of room for innovation in this kind of trick, which we will discuss at the end.

below, according to the order of publication, I recommend 14 of my favorite snow secret room works. I hope these words can bring you a little coolness in the hot summer!

1, murder at White Abbey

author: John Dixon Carr

Double score: 6.8

as one of the three in the Golden Age, Carl's name must be familiar to everyone. This work, published in the name of Carter Dixon, is the second film in the Henry Melville series and Carl's first Snow Chamber work. The most interesting thing about this book is that its riddle is the second kind of "footprints in the snow", which is very rare in early European and American works (the other is Hector Talbot's "fate of Hell", slightly later than "White Monastery"). There were only one man's footprints in the snow, and he had an alibi. Such a novel riddle breaks the precedent that most of the early works are "completely without footprints", and at the same time, it has become a famous work that later generations scramble to imitate. Many of the later works will reveal the bottom of this book (such as the enigma of the Swedish Pavilion mentioned later), so if you want to read this book, you should read it first. As early as the period of the Republic of China, when there was no Chinese translation, Mr. Yao Sufeng, a translator and researcher of mystery novels in Europe and America, regarded this book as the highest masterpiece of Carter Dixon.

Double score: 8.3

three coffins are the sixth work of the Gideon Phil series. Pin, ranked 40th on the list of the best 100 mystery novels in history by the Crime Writers Association. The English version of the book, originally called "The Hollow Man", was renamed "The Three Coffins" when it was published in the United States. in 2001, the book was first translated into Chinese in the murder store series of Taiwan Yuanliu Publishing House, which was translated from the American version with the title "three coffins." In 2004, Yilin Publishing House in mainland China was authorized by Yuanliu Publishing House and adopted the translation from Taiwan. This book contains two secret rooms in the snow, one is "the house closed by heavy snow", and the other is the real "no footprints in the snow". This book can be said to be a must-read for reasoning fans, so there is no need for my recommendation. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the "White Abbey" and "three coffins" mentioned above, Carl has also written, "No footprint" in many other environments, among which "the Girl she is dead" and "the distorted Hub" are masterpieces and are recommended to read.

3,

author: [Japan] Tetsuya Sakagawa

Double score: 7.7

the earlier snow secret room in Japan can be traced back to Tetsuya Nagawa's short story "White Chamber". The Taiwan translation of this work is included in the lethal Chamber of Secrets. The riddle is "a room surrounded by snow". Although it is a very old work and the trick is relatively old, it becomes very interesting when it is combined with the reversal of a character's relationship. In his "Chamber of Secrets Criminology course", Tiancheng evaluates this work as "LeBron", which can be said to be a masterpiece in the secret room in the snow. It is worth mentioning that Berlin 1888 (Berlin-1888 1967), which won the 13th Edogawa Walk Award in 1967, also has a snow-secret room with a principle similar to that of "White Chamber of Secrets". By contrast, the snow-secret room in Berlin 1888 is so simple and boring that it is not recommended. But if you are interested in German history, this book is worth reading.

4,

author: Paul Holt

Double score: 8.0

although the age of this work is very late, it is indeed a classical book. Paul Holt's achievements in the Chamber of Secrets are on a par with Carl's. The house was covered with snow, and the people in the house were killed. the murderer was nowhere to be seen, but there were no tracks in the snow. It's a gorgeous riddle, and the answer is reasonable. This secret room is only a small part of the book, in addition to a variety of puzzles and serial tricks. Coupled with the fast-paced story of the whole process, it can be said to be a comprehensive classical masterpiece. Even if I don't like the Snow Chamber, I don't think I'll hate this one. If you read the snow secret room for the first time, you can try the water with this book "the fourth door". By contrast, Holt's other Snow Chamber feature-length "the King of chaos" is inferior, in which the trick is slightly simpler and weaker than the main trick of the novel.

5,

author: Fayuetaro

has no score for the time being

Fayuelun Taro is a representative of the neo-genitive reasoning writers and one of the former members of Beijing University. At the annual meeting of the Ben reasoning Writers Club last month, Fayuelun Taro stepped down as the fourth president of the Ben reasoning Writers Association (2013-2017). This work is the second work after Fayuelun Taro's debut in "closed classroom", and it is also the first work with "Fayuelun Taro" as the protagonist. The road to the secret room was covered with snow, and there was only one line of footprints which the witness entered, who had met with the detective before entering the secret room, so there was nothing suspicious. Simple riddles, complex reasoning, shocking answers. Unfortunately, there is no Chinese translation of this masterpiece. Friends who are good at Japanese are recommended to read the original. Fayuelun Taro has a lot of works in Chinese translation, and the Chinese translation recommends "Shengshou is Wen" and "for Laizi".

author:

Douban

Douban score: 8.0

this work is the second work of the second Tanglanzi series and was selected for the first Nian Sichuan Zhe Ye Award in 1990. Unfortunately, it was defeated by Lu Bian Tuo's 13 people and only won the excellent work Award. This book can be said to be a textbook-like work of "No footprint" for two reasons: first, there are two cases of no footprint, and the answers are reasonable and innovative. The first snow-secret room is the highlight of the whole article. Although the riddle is similar to the White Monastery, its complexity is much higher than that of the former. Second, the "no footprint" handout attached to this work divides the "no footprint" method into nine categories from the perspective of trickery, covering almost all the trickery in history, which is very comprehensive. For Japanese fans, "Blood-sucking House" can be used as the first book of second-class Tang Li people. after all, the reasoning part is of very high quality, and it won't feel bad even if it's not right. However, the "no footprint" handout is still recommended to have a certain amount of reading before reading, otherwise it will make other "no footprint" works become boring.

Douban rating: 7.2

this is the second work in the McCato catfish series of "Detective Ming". "Summer" and "Winter" in the title coincide with Ellery Quinn's "tragedy of Y" and "the Last case of Ryan". The book caused great controversy as soon as it was published because except for the short-lived Detective Ming, there is no obvious reasoning element in the book. After its publication in Japan, many people questioned whether the book was a mystery novel in China. After publication, it also aroused great repercussions from reasoning fans. From then on, the people who like and hate Maye Xiongsong are divided into two camps. Those who like him regard him as a god (such as me), while those who hate him do not hesitate to criticize him. Leaving aside these controversies, only the snow-secret room in this book, this work can be said to be the most magnificent snow-secret room in history. The Harmony Hall on the isolated island snowed in August, and the body was on the snow-covered beach without any footprints. This beautiful picture is enough to fascinate reasoning fans, and in the end, the "solution" of the secret room is also very broken, very creative, and can be called a masterstroke. In short, it is a very extreme issue, and even if the controversy is left behind, there are still many merits. It's a pity to miss this book just because of the controversy. Maybe you'll join Mayer after reading it (laughter).

author:

Double score: 9.0

this article is included in the short story collection "the beauty bag for the beauty bag" (1997). This article belongs to the category of "closed room with heavy snow", which is a double-secret room of snow secret room + airtight space. The answer is still very numb. In fact, in this article, in addition to the truth of the snow secret room, there is an even more collapsing truth. Recommended to readers who like Maye Xiongsong, readers with relatively low psychological bearing capacity should be cautious.

10,

author: Paul Holt

Double score: 7.7

this short story is included in the short collection "Wolf Night". It is the pinnacle of Holt's short story Snow Chamber. The riddle is that the deceased has a dagger on his back and the body is in the snow, and there are only big dog tracks on the snow. The trick of the solution is very innovative, and finally, there is a divine expansion at the end, which can be said to give full play to the advantages of the short story, and the reasoning is solid and short. Recommended to lovers of reasoning in Europe and America.

11.

author:   Douban

Seiichiro Dayama is the king of Japanese short stories. His works are not many, but all of them are of high quality. This article was first published in Ben reasoning, ranked 15th in the full ranking of New Ben's short stories in 2011, and earned the short story collection Chamber of Secrets Collector in 2012 (Chamber of Secrets Collector 2012). Unlike a typical Dashan short story, the highlight of this article is not the starting point, but a secret room to win. When Jiayako woke up, she found that she and the body were in a secret room surrounded by snow, and there was no footprint in or out of the secret room in the snow. Of course, she was treated as a murderer. What kind of explanation will the secret room collector give to such a secret room that seems to have no corner at all? One of the major features of Dashan is that it is suitable for people of all ages. This article is recommended to all reasoning fans.

author: chicken Ding

Busylooking for a piece of mother of the bride dresses with sleeves to flaunt your sexuality? Don’t be shy, just click the button and sit back to enjoy a grand shopping experience!

Double score: 8.3

Chicken Ding is the leading secret room researcher and reasoning writer in China and has published 37 secret room works in magazines. The Chamber of Secrets short story Hammer of hatred was translated into Japanese in 2015 and is included in the second episode of the Modern Chinese reasoning Series. The riddle of this work is extremely gorgeous: the victim is brutally dismembered and his limbs are placed neatly on the snow to form the letters "L" and "T", but there are no footprints in the snow, which is a crime that cannot be accomplished by manpower. Throughout the foreign snow-secret room works, no one formed the snow-secret room after being divided into corpses. The riddle of Chicken Ding is not only very innovative but also gorgeous enough to match the Sonata of Summer and Winter. The first solution is regular, and the second solution can be called a masterpiece, full of innovation, and can not be imitated at the same time. It is worth mentioning that a Japanese snow-secret room short story in the same period is similar to this one, but the splendor and complexity of the trick are slightly inferior. Thus it can be seen that Chinese people can also write interesting reasoning stories, and Chinese reasoning fans may have a little bit of confidence. This article is recommended to all reasoning fans.

13,   author:  Aozaki

Double score: 7.9

Aozaki Yuge was born and 1991, he won the 22nd Nian Chuan Zhe Ye Award for "Gymnasium" (sports talent) in 2012. This article is included in the short collection "knocking on the door of the Chamber of Secrets" (2016). The riddle is quite classical: there are only the footprints of the dead and the first discoverer in the snow, the knife falls next to the body, and there are no fingerprints on the hilt. However, the word "so-called" in the title has already hinted at the author's intention. This work is innovative in concept. I believe it will give you a different reading experience than classical works.

14,

author: Lu Qiu Croucher

Douban rating: 7.3

this is Lu Qiu Croucher's second novel. In 2014, he won the Rookie Award of the second Chinese reasoning Grand Prix for his short prelude. Later, he published several short works in the inferential World magazine, and published the first novel, the sacrifice of Spring in the first year, in the context of the Han Dynasty in 2016. "if and only if the snow is white" is his second full-length work, which is the campus reasoning of youth in the modern background. This work has two "snow secret rooms". On a snowy night five years ago, young girls wandered alone on the campus. By the time she was found early the next morning, she had become a corpse in the snow. There was no murderer's footprint in the snow, and the snow was surrounded by the locked door and then locked back door of the office building. The first half of the novel revolves around this snow-secret room, who knows that another snowy night happened in the same case as five years ago, and another girl died in the snow-secret room. Although the snow chamber in this work is suspected of being a "foul", the combination of trickery and logic and the mutual infiltration of reasoning and youthful elements make the final solution unexpected and reasonable. Whether you are a fan of reasoning or a lover of youth novels, this book will give you an unprecedented reading experience.

to sum up, the form of the snow-secret room in the classical book is relatively simple, and the tricks are often repeated; at the beginning of the new book, there are many innovations, but innovation is not in the trick, but in the beauty and complexity of the riddle; the snow-secret room in the 21st century is mostly combined with other tricks, trying to pursue innovation in other angles. If you choose a work in each period, I recommend "the fourth door", "Blood-sucking House" and "if and only if the snow is white". These three books are all Ben's works with some innovation in the snow-secret room, and the overall strength is not weak.

if you feel unbearably hot, please have a glass of snow secret room. I hope this glass of snow secret room will bring a touch of coolness to your summer.
